The Misty Team, through the Water Explorer programme, has taken the water issue very seriously during this scholastic year. With four focus themes suggested by the Water Explorer Programme, the water explorers started working on one challenge after the other. The highlight of all this was a full day celebration by means of a Water Festival held at school on Wednesday 9th May 2018.
On the day all students, teachers and school staff were given a free stainless steel travel cup to use instead of disposable cups, both for cold and hot drinks, therefore saving “Secret Water” – water used in the production of disposable cups, as well as helping to reduce litter. Moreover, the water explorers have teamed up with all year 7 students and through an entrepreneurship project worked on Green Business with the main aim being that of saving “Secret Water.” Recycled materials such as glass jars, milk cartons, tin lids, glass bottles and wood pellets were transformed into innovative useful products. All these products were on sale on the day together with posters explaining how “Secret Water has been saved.” The Water Festival ended with a live performance of an original rap song, backed with a live band, with simple water saving tips.
Present for the Water Festival event were the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, Gozo College Principal Dr Denise Mifsud, Nature-Trust FEE Malta Executive President Mr Vincent Attard and other distinguished guests.
