Affogati stood out for particular emphasis to VALUES!
Before starting with the activities related to the challenges, the team focused on the analysis of the ICARE values. The teacher led the students in a process of increase of knowledge and awareness on the significance of the values and their implementation:
Integrity, Commitment, Awareness, Responsibility, Empathy.
Every child expressed her/his opinion and shared with others her/his perception of these values. The debate and the analysis of specific cases, situations that happened at school, related to their behaviour and attitudes to the schoolmates, teachers, and people in general, helped the students themselves to become aware and to embrace the same values.
The result of the work done in the classroom was posted and a new challenge was created: the secret friend. Each student, as every adult person also, has her/his preferences, her/his best friend, the more or less sympathetic friend, a child that just does not get along with.
Through the secret friend game, any negative and hostile attitude towards the other is cancelled. Pupils are fishing a note with the name of a partner, none of the others know what the name on the note is. Everyone takes a note and then becomes the secret friend of another.
The game of the secret friend has been going on since March favouring the increase of pupils’ enthusiasm, care of others, responsibility, kindness and empathy, encouraging the active participation in all school activities. In addition, the most shy or disadvantaged students have been stimulated for teamwork, increasing their desire to know the others most and let the others know them better and work together.
In fact, the work done on values through the game of Secret friend has contributed to the personal growth of the child who feels the protagonist with the others, who, empowered, is facing all the challenges of Waterexplorer with participation and enthusiasm in a spirit of cooperation and exchange with all the schoolmates.
