Ayent's STEP

At the beginning of the year, we built water filters to clean dirty water. We tried to filter the water in different ways: with paper, coffee filters and gravel. We then wanted to compare our cleaning technique to that used by the municipality of Ayent by visiting the STEP. We looked on the website of the municipality of Ayent the phone number of the responsibe of the water department, which deals with the STEP. We then phoned this person and organized the visit. The responsibe of the STEP also offered to visit the spring water filtration station located on the top of the town.
A group of students wrote a letter to parents to explain our project and organize transport by car. When the day came, we had a picnic in the class during the lunch break and, in the early afternoon, we went with some parents to visit the treatment plant. The visit was very interesting, we learned a lot but the smell, on the other hand, was not very pleasant.
We then re-discussed the class visit and gathered our memories to summarize.
We then went to the different classes of the school to explain the operation of the STEP to our classmates with the help of a presentation made by a group of students. This exercise was stressful because we are not used to speaking in front of an audience and it was difficult to explain to the youngest because there were many technical terms.
